Bridging the Gap: Naeem Abbasi Naqshbandi’s Vision for Pakistanis Abroad
Unpaid Ambassador for Pakistanis Overseas, Promoting National Interests
Report and Analysis by Sheraz Khan, London
Naeem Abbasi Naqshbandi serves as the Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Welfare Council (OPWC), an organization dedicated to supporting the welfare of Pakistani expatriates and strengthening their connection with Pakistan, while also fostering ties with the UK. Under Naeem Naqshbandi’s leadership, the OPWC organizes various significant events, such as Pakistan’s Defence Day, to bring together the overseas Pakistani community. These events aim to honor Pakistan’s armed forces and promote national unity abroad.
In addition to these community events, the OPWC has worked closely with Pakistani diplomatic missions, such as the High Commission in the UK, to address important issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, including judicial matters, passport and visa issues, and promoting investment in Pakistan. Their efforts seek to strengthen the ties between the diaspora and their homeland, while highlighting the potential contributions of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Naeem Naqshbandi played a crucial role by leading charitable efforts to support key workers and vulnerable communities, collaborating with the Government of Pakistan to help alleviate people’s hardships. Under his leadership, the OPWC distributed food packages to frontline workers in Pakistan. His contributions were part of a larger community initiative to ensure essential workers received the necessary support during this difficult time. His efforts, alongside those of other charitable leaders, were widely appreciated and drew a large number of volunteers.
This organization not only protects the broader interests of Pakistan abroad but also highlights Pakistan’s positive aspects and supports the resolution of the Kashmir issue by promoting Pakistan’s stance, while discouraging anti-Pakistan ideologies.
OPWC President Haji Abid Hussain is the backbone of the organization, always keeping his doors open and offering hospitality to the community. He plays a vital role in community service, always with a cheerful disposition. Many prominent mayors, councillors, and community leaders across the UK also contribute significantly to helping people and strengthening the OPWC. Naeem Abbasi Naqshbandi acts as an unpaid ambassador for Pakistanis overseas, working above political and regional distinctions, and his services are highly commendable.
