Women Parliamentary Caucus Holds Pivotal Working Council Meeting

Islamabad : The Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), led by Dr. Shahida Rehmani, convened a significant working council meeting to discuss and strategize on key issues pertaining to women’s rights and welfare across Pakistan.

Key Decisions and Discussions

1. Central Jail Visits: The council approved a plan to visit central jails to assess the conditions and treatment of female inmates, ensuring their rights and rehabilitation needs are adequately addressed.

2. Beautification of the Capital: Efforts to enhance the aesthetics of the capital city, particularly the parliament’s exterior, were discussed in preparation for September 6th.

3. Provincial Caucus Engagement: The council resolved to visit provincial caucuses to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and invite Provincial Women’s Parliamentary Caucus members for comprehensive discussions.

4. Review of Existing Bills: The working council decided to conduct an in-depth review of current legislation affecting women, committing to amend existing bills to better align with contemporary needs and challenges.

5. National Helpline System: The council deliberated on developing a national helpline system specifically for women, aimed at providing immediate support and resources in times of crisis.

6. Prevention Through Legislation and Awareness: A strong focus was placed on prevention strategies, emphasizing the need for robust legal frameworks and awareness campaigns to combat gender-based violence and discrimination.
