UNITED NATIONS : At least 30 people were killed and dozens injured after Israeli airstrikes hit two schools in the Al-Nasr neighborhood in war-raved Gaza, according to the Palestinian Civil Defence agency.

Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence, told foreign and local reporters that the majority of the bodies recovered are women and children. Rescuers are still searching for missing people under the rubble, he was quoted as saying in reports carried by the international media.

“Around 80% of the victims are children,” he said in a statement.

Basal said the schools were housing Palestinians displaced from their homes in the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza.

The spokesman called the scenes at the two bombed schools as “tragic.”

“There is no longer a safe place in Gaza City, and the (Israeli) occupation does not respect any sanctities,” he said.

The death toll from Israeli military aggression in Gaza since October 7 reached 39,583 on Sunday, with a further 91,398 people injured, according to the Ministry of Health in the enclave.
