Commissioner and Political Leader Inspect Low-Lying Areas, Review Drainage Arrangements

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi along with political leader Tahira Aurangzeb visited the low lying areas of the city and Nullah Lai.
Rawalpindi August 8 ( ): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak along with senior political leader Tahira Aurangzeb visited the low lying areas of the city and Nullah Lai in wake of intermittent rain since last night. Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, Md WASA Saleem Ashraf and other concerned officer were also accompanying them in this visit. They monitored the water level and its flow at Gawalmandi. They also reviewed arrangements made for drainage of rain water from the low lying areas.
Commissioner Rawalpindi said that since last night till now the highest rainfall was recorded in PMD H8 which was 89 mm. Apart from this, Shamsabad received 68 mm, Khechri 36 mm, Saidpur 40 mm, Bokra 73 mm rain was recorded. He said that the water level in Nullah Lai has started to return to normal. WASA Rawalpindi teams have been engaged in drainage since night and the drainage operation has been completed from the low-lying areas of the city. At present, the traffic in Rawalpindi is normal and the water is not standing anywhere. He said that the leaves of the staff has been canceled and the machinery has been put on alert. To deal with any kind of emergency, the administration and institutions are ready and relief camps have also been set up.
Senior political leader Tahira Aurangzeb said that 30% more rains are predicted in monsoon this time due to which our extra preparations have to be completed. He said that a situation of urban flooding may arise in the city, so all public representatives should be present in the field with the administration. All arrangements should be carefully reviewed and full support provided to management wherever required. He said that the meteorological department has predicted more rains, in view of which WASA must have completed all arrangements.
