Electricity Consumers Hit with Massive Over-Billing Scam

A shocking revelation has emerged in the city of Lahore, where the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into the alleged over-billing of electricity consumers by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). The inquiry, initiated by the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle, has uncovered a staggering fraud that has left millions of consumers reeling.

According to sources, LESCO has been accused of sending inflated electricity bills to consumers, exceeding 200 units in some cases. This blatant over-billing has resulted in a significant hike in the financial burden on consumers, with many facing unjustified increases in their electricity tariffs.

The FIA has taken swift action, issuing a notice to LESCO’s Director of Customer Services, demanding detailed billing data and other relevant information. The agency is determined to get to the bottom of this scam and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

This development comes on the heels of a similar protest lodged by the Sindh government against the federal government, decrying the recent increase in electricity tariffs and over-billing. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has vowed to take up the matter with the federal government, terming over-billing as “injustice” against the people of the province.

The National Economic Coordination Committee’s approval of a price hike in K-Electric tariffs earlier this month has further fueled the fire, with many consumers feeling the pinch of exorbitant electricity bills. The government’s decision to notify K-Electric tariff in line with the committee’s recommendations has only added to the consumers’ woes.

As the FIA investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: the people of Lahore will no longer be taken for a ride by unscrupulous electricity providers. The agency’s crackdown on over-billing is a welcome move, and consumers can finally hope for some respite from the crushing burden of inflated electricity bills.
