Empowering Vulnerable Communities: Experience Sharing Seminar on Essential SRHR Provision

Islamabad: In a groundbreaking event, Rahnuma Family Planning Association of Pakistan (Rahnuma FPAP) hosted an Experience Sharing Seminar in Islamabad, highlighting the importance of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) during disaster and emergency situations. The seminar aimed to disseminate project learnings and insights from a 35-month project supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The event brought together public sector officials, UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, and donor organizations, underscoring the need for an eco-system of volunteers to respond to the SRHR needs of vulnerable communities, including women, children, and adolescents.

Mr. Raja Muhammad Razzaque, President of Rahnuma FPAP, emphasized the significance of reproductive health and family planning services during emergencies. Dr. Syed Asif Hussain, CEO of Rahnuma FPAP, shared the organization’s achievements and engagement with stakeholders.

The seminar featured esteemed guests, including Mr. Neil Hawkins, Australian High Commissioner, who praised the project’s implementation and outcomes. Ms. Rahila Durrani, Minister for Education Balochistan, highlighted the impact of RH and FP services in reducing maternal mortality rates.

The event also saw participation from honorable Secretaries, DGs, and Directors of Health and Population Welfare Departments from various provinces, as well as representatives from UN agencies, NGOs, and donor organizations.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Riffat Sardar, Chairperson of Rahnuma FPAP, thanked participants for their valuable suggestions, emphasizing the need for improvement in the nexus between reproductive health, family planning, and disaster/emergency response.
