Global South could be transformed into hub of prosperity by embracing new pathways: Ahsan Iqbal
In a visionary address at the Second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development in Beijing, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, unveiled a transformative blueprint for the Global South. He emphasized that by embracing innovative pathways and visionary approaches, the region can metamorphose into a hub of prosperity and progress.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed that modernization is not merely economic growth, but a holistic transformation encompassing social, cultural, political, and environmental dimensions. He highlighted Pakistan’s 5Es framework for economic transformation, focusing on export, E-Pakistan, environment, energy, and equity, aimed at achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2035.
He emphasized the critical role of technological innovation, education, and skills development in driving modernization. Investing in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and green infrastructure can address climate change and create resilient communities. Minister Ahsan Iqbal also underscored the importance of inclusive governance, regional cooperation, and cultural preservation.
He praised the Global Development Initiative (GDI) proposed by President Xi Jinping, aimed at accelerating the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Minister Ahsan Iqbal called for collective efforts to build a world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness, inclusiveness, and is clean and beautiful.
This visionary speech outlined a roadmap for the Global South to leapfrog traditional development stages, harnessing innovation, technology, and collective efforts to create a brighter future for all.
