Husband’s poor hygiene: Woman seeks divorce 40 days after marriage
In a bizarre turn of events, an Indian woman filed for divorce against her husband, citing his poor hygiene.
The incident occurred in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. It was reported that the unnamed woman wanted to divorce just 40 days after they tied the knot.
She expressed her distress about living with a partner who didn’t seem to prioritise basic cleanliness, claiming it led to an unpleasant body odour.
The woman went to a family counselling centre to share her concerns.
During the inquiry conducted by officials, her husband admitted that he typically bathed only once or twice a month.
He mentioned that he sometimes used Gangajal – water from the Ganges – once a week for cleaning up.
Despite his attempts to improve, including bathing six times during their brief marriage, tensions didn’t ease.
Due to this, the woman eventually returned to her parents’ home.
Amid this chaos, her family filed a complaint of dowry harassment at the local police station, along with her divorce request.
After some talks with authorities, Rajesh agreed to start bathing daily to address her concerns.
However, she remained firm in her decision to end the marriage.
The couple is set to meet again at the counselling centre on September 22, 2024.
Their families are hoping they find a resolution that works for both of them.
As bizarre as this incident appears to be, it is not the first of its kind.
In January 2024, a Turkish woman filed for divorce due to her husband’s poor hygiene.
