ICCI and PSB Join Forces to Revitalize Pakistan’s Sports Economy

Islamabad, July 8 – In a bid to revitalize Pakistan’s sports industry, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) have joined forces to host a seminal seminar on ‘Sports Economy’. The event aims to bring together stakeholders to discuss and implement strategies for the growth of sports in the country.

ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, while meeting with PSB’s Deputy Director General (Technical) Shahid Islam, emphasized the need for a comprehensive sports policy to address Pakistan’s decline in sports. He highlighted the significant role of the sports industry in economic development and urged the government to strengthen this sector for improved economic growth.

Bakhtawari reminisced about Pakistan’s past glory in sports like squash and hockey but lamented the country’s current neglect of these fields. He stressed the need for employment opportunities for athletes, sponsorships, and sports-based admissions in educational institutions.

The ICCI has established a Sports Committee to promote sports activities and has sought PSB’s support in organizing events. Bakhtawari proposed a major event to promote sports and business activities, which was met with enthusiasm by Shahid Islam, who pledged his full support for the ‘Sports Economy’ seminar.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including former President FPCCI Zubair Ahmed Malik and former Senior Vice President Khalid Chaudhry. With this collaboration, Pakistan is poised to revive its sports economy and reclaim its former glory in the world of sports.”
