KP assembly passes motor vehicle, police amendment bills
PESHAWAR,:The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed the Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2024 and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Amendment Bill 2024, while the Assembly Recruitment Bill was withdrawn.
Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam presented the bills in the assembly. The proposed amendments by MPAs were withdrawn, allowing the assembly to pass the two bills smoothly.
The Assembly Recruitment Amendment Bill was withdrawn after careful consideration. A select committee had been formed to amend the rules related to assembly recruitment. Speaker Babar Saleem highlighted that employment rules have been outdated for 51 years.
The Provincial Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2024, presented by Law Minister Aftab Alam, includes a provision to establish a 10% welfare fund from traffic fines. Under the new amendments, 1% of fines will go to gazetted officers, 12% to ticketing officers, 22% to traffic beat personnel, and 5% to those with the best performance.
This initiative aims to improve the welfare of traffic personnel and enhance the performance of traffic management in the province.
