Law Minister welcomes opposition for using parliamentary forum to raise issues
ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar on Wednesday lauded the opposition for utilizing the parliamentary forum to raise issues, emphasizing this as a hallmark of democracy.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, he said, “It is encouraging to see opposition members using the parliament for discussing the issues rather than confrontation. This is the essence of democracy.”
He highlighted that the people of Pakistan have entrusted their elected representatives to discuss their issues in the supreme forum of the nation and work towards effective solutions.
The minister stressed the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue within parliament and said that taxpayers’ money is being used to run the proceedings, and it is vital to respect the platform for meaningful debate.
Addressing points raised by the opposition, the minister said that inflation had decreased due to the government’s policies, and the interest rate had dropped from 23% to 15%, with further reductions anticipated.
He also highlighted the stock exchange’s positive performance and expressed optimism about the growth of business and investment in the country.
He urged opposition members to engage in constructive criticism and appreciated the government’s steps to stabilize the economy. He added that the prime minister actively holds daily meetings on economic issues, business development, and export growth to boost investment.
Responding to a question, he said that the prime minister has directed the government to take parliamentary business seriously and ensure that ministries address issues raised in the house. He also noted that parliamentary rules allow secretaries to respond to questions and calling attention notices in the absence of ministers.
