The Khateeb of Madina Masjid Oak Road, Maulana Iqbal Awan, has voluntarily stepped down from his responsibilities. He served as the Imam of the mosque for thirty years. A grand gathering was organized at the mosque in his honor on his retirement. On this occasion, his followers, colleagues, scholars from other mosques, as well as religious, political, and social personalities paid glowing tributes to him. They described him as a great advocate of Islamic unity and a strong voice for the oppressed, including in Kashmir, Palestine, and wherever Muslims faced injustices. They praised his dedication, describing him as an institution in himself.

Maulana Iqbal Awan also significantly enhanced the charitable, religious, and national services of the UK Islamic Mission during his tenure.

In his address, Maulana Iqbal Awan said that Islam will, God willing, ultimately prevail, and all Muslims should strive for this cause. He appealed to the residents of Luton in particular and the global Muslim community in general to continue their efforts for unity and harmony and avoid divisions. He emphasized that while he was stepping down from his responsibilities as a mosque khateeb, he was not retiring from his religious and national duties. He will continue to focus on prayers and writing books on the Prophet’s (PBUH) biography.

On this occasion, speakers like UK Islamic Mission President Riaz Wali, Shaukat Butt, Aqdas Mughal, Chaudhry Muhammad Sharif, Zahid Iqbal, and others stated that Maulana Iqbal Awan had prepared them for religious service and shaped their lives alongside worldly matters.

Prominent figures like Maulana Masood Hazravi, Maulana Muhammad Zubair, Qari Nazir Muhammad, former mayors Riaz Butt and Chaudhry Masood, Haji Qurban Hussain, Muhammad Dawood, Asif Latif, Imam Muhammad Farooq Hussain, former president of Pakistan Press Club UK Shiraz Khan, Malik Shabbir, Professor Imtiaz Babar Awan, and others also paid tribute to Maulana Iqbal Awan. They described him as a well-dressed, courteous, knowledgeable, and practical individual.

The stage secretary duties were performed by Nadeem Tabani, while Hafiz Muhammad Farooq recited the Quran.

In conclusion, Maulana Iqbal Awan’s eldest son, Husnain Iqbal, addressed the gathering, stating that his father always emphasized the importance of punctuality, patience, and gratitude. He constantly prayed for his children after every prayer, and he expressed his wish that everyone be blessed with such a pious father.
