National Assembly Convenes: Election Act Amendments Top The Agenda
Islamabad: In a significant session, the National Assembly meets today to tackle a 43-point agenda, headlined by the introduction of Election Act amendment bills and a constitutional amendment bill. This gathering marks the first since the Supreme Court’s July 12 verdict in favor of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which led to the recognition of 39 PTI lawmakers by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Two private members’ bills, presented by Bilal Azhar Kayani and Zaib Jafar, aim to amend the Election Act. Additionally, Noor Alam Khan will move a constitutional amendment bill seeking to repeal the law regarding contempt of court.
The agenda encompasses various bills, including amendments to the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance Act, the Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, and the establishment of the Pakistan Examination Board. Furthermore, lawmakers will propose changes to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, alongside a resolution seeking measures to reduce Hajj expenses.
With the PML-N-led coalition government now boasting 229 members in the NA, this session is poised to be a pivotal moment in shaping the country’s legislative landscape.
