In a groundbreaking move, four esteemed Pakistani universities have joined forces with Chinese institutions to revolutionize agricultural technology through the Silk Road Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance. Quaid-i-Azam University, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Sindh Agriculture University, and Ayub Agricultural Research Institute have joined hands with Chinese institutions to:
– Exchange and develop novel food crops, vegetable varieties, and medicinal crops
– Establish demonstration parks for research and innovation
– Introduce cutting-edge technologies like nanobiochar, nutrient solutions, and bio-organic fertilizers
Breakthroughs and Achievements
This alliance has already yielded remarkable results, including:
– Selection of 19 stress-resistant wheat strains
– Identification of a new wheat variety with potential to enhance production, salt stress tolerance, and farmers’ income
