Pakistan Makes Strides Towards Achieving SDGs Despite Triple Crises, Ambassador Jadoon Tells UN
UNITED NATIONS : In a remarkable display of resilience, Pakistan has made significant progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) despite grappling with the triple crises of food, fuel, and finance, Ambassador Usman Jadoon told the United Nations.
Addressing the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Pakistani envoy highlighted the country’s efforts to embed the UN’s 2030 Agenda for SDGs into its national development policies and plans.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, devastating floods, and climate change, Ambassador Jadoon emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the SDGs, particularly in the areas of poverty reduction, education, and healthcare.
He called for increased financing and fiscal space to support developing countries in achieving the SDGs, stressing the need to bridge the North-South digital divide and reform the international financial architecture.
The Ambassador’s remarks came as the world prepares for the “Summit of the Future” in September, where concrete actions will be agreed upon to realize the SDGs by 2030. Despite the challenges, Pakistan remains committed to accelerating its national efforts to achieve the SDGs and ensure a prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable future for all.
