In a striking demonstration outside the National Press Club Islamabad, Youth Climate Activists Pakistan highlighted the escalating threat of Glacial Lake Outburst Flooding (GLOF) in the country, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan. Activists stood on melting ice blocks, symbolizing the dire consequences of climate change, and held banners reading “Stop the Melt, Save Pakistan!” and “Glacial Meltdown, Climate Breakdown.

Pakistan, home to over 7,000 glaciers, faces a critical issue with GLOF. A recent report revealed that 33 glacial lakes in the northern regions are prone to sudden flooding, displacing thousands and causing significant damage. Local residents and activists warned of the urgent need for climate action, citing threats to agriculture, tourism, and water security.

The youth activists demanded immediate action from the government, corporations, and global leaders to address climate change, emphasizing that the crisis is already affecting vulnerable regions. Their message was clear: swift action is necessary to protect Pakistan’s fragile ecology and ensure a sustainable future.”
