Rawalpindi : On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a high-level committee of the Punjab government visited Chakwal to assess the situation after a polio case was reported in the area. Led by Secretary Health Ali Jan, the committee included Special Secretary Muhammad Iqbal, Khizr Afzal, head of the Punjab Anti-Polio Program, Additional Secretary Technical Dr. Yunus, and Head of Immunization Dr. Mukhtar.

During their two-day visit, the committee members reviewed the situation, visited the home of the affected child, and met with local health department officials. Secretary Ali Jan also visited the Primary Health Center Kahot in the affected area and chaired an emergency meeting, which was attended by all partners.

The committee reviewed the immunization record and issued instructions for conducting an effective anti-polio campaign. Khizr Afzal, head of the Punjab Anti-Polio Program, stated that the committee’s recommendations would play a crucial role in the fight against polio and the upcoming polio campaign.

Fortunately, the polio-infected child is on the road to recovery, and thanks to vaccinations, children in the area have been protected from the effects of polio. The effects of polio in children are now almost non-existent, marking a significant success in the province’s efforts to eradicate the disease.
