Rawalpindi on High Alert: Commissioner Directs Daily Meetings to Combat Dengue
Cleanliness drive to prevent dengue breeding, strict action against violators
Rawalpindi : Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak directed Deputy Commissioners to form a team of three officers from their office in order to check the premises of all government buildings and offices. Cleanliness of government offices in wake of dengue larvae should be checked and reported. It will help to ensure that those engaged in anti-dengue activities, their offices are free from dengue larvae. He has further said that the rainy season is favorable for the breeding of dengue mosquito, so all departments should continue operations against dengue. He directed that DCs should chair dengue meetings on daily basis and ensure implementation of SOPs through critically reviewing the performance of all departments. In order to ensure the quality of operations carried out in the field, special attention should be given to third party validation and strict action should be taken against those responsible for dengue mosquito breeding. By not keeping their surroundings clean, these people provide breeding spots for dengue larvae and endanger the precious lives of others besides themselves. Engineer Aamir Khattak said that through the announcement in the mosque, the public should be sensitised towards it and the students should be involved in this awareness campaign.
He expressed these views while presiding over the review meeting of anti-dengue activities at the commissioner’s office. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, Additional Commissioner Coordination Syed Nazarat Ali, Director Health, CO and officers of other concerned departments.
Briefing the meeting, CO Health said that 100% coverage of all hotspots across the district is being ensured and the indoor and outdoor teams of the health department are engaged in surveillance on daily basis. In indoor larva detection, 30 thousand houses were checked during the last twenty four hours, out of which 856 were positive. Similarly, 11,000 spots were checked in outdoor checking, out of which 145 positive spots were found, where necessary action was taken. commissioner was further apprised in the briefing that from January 2024 up-till now, violation of dengue SOPs has resulted into registration of 1820 FIRs, 1770 challans were served, 549 buildings sealed while fine up to Rs.8,30,100/- has been imposed.
