Islamabad Declaration adopted to address gender inequality and promote women's empowerment in Asian countries

The two-day Regional Parliamentarians’ Meeting on Gender Empowerment for the Green Economy concluded with the unanimous adoption of the Islamabad Declaration. The meeting brought together 20 parliamentarians from Asian countries to address gender inequality and promote women’s empowerment in achieving green economy goals.

The declaration reaffirms commitment to the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It acknowledges the impacts of climate change and commits to building resilient communities, investing in emergency preparedness, and promoting women’s leadership.

The 12-point declaration addresses key issues, including data collection, promoting women’s empowerment, eliminating discrimination, and leveraging women’s contributions to address climate change.

The meeting was co-organized by the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, and the Asian Population and Development Association, with support from the United Nations Population Fund.
