Rawalpindi : Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has said that the increase in demand and supply of tomatoes and onions is a major problem. Special tasks have been given to the relevant field formations for the off-season cultivation of onions and tomatoes in the province of Punjab.In this context, a plan is being prepared to increase the local production of tomatoes and onions. He was presiding over a high level meeting . In the meeting, consideration was given to increase the production of seasonal vegetables in Punjab. On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that practical steps are being taken to reduce the price and supply fluctuations of tomatoes and onions. He further said that scientists have been assigned a special task for the off-season cultivation of tomatoes and onions. Field formations have been assigned the task of finding suitable areas for off-season tomato cultivation in Punjab according to climatic conditions. Farmers are being guided about off-season onion cultivation in Punjab. A comprehensive plan is being prepared to increase the production of seasonal vegetables in Punjab. It is necessary to increase the production of potato, onion and tomato vegetables at affordable prices. Director General Agriculture Extension Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, Director General Agriculture Water Management Malik Muhammad Akram, Director General Agricultural Information, Punjab Naveed Asmat Kahloon and Director Agriculture Extension Lahore Division Sher Muhammad Sharawat and other officers attended the meeting.
