Shah Rukh Khan to Receive Honorary Award at Locarno Film Festival

Geneva:The 77th Locarno Film Festival is set to honor Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan with the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera award for his contributions to redefining cinema. The award will be presented on Saturday, August 17, during the festival’s run from August 7 to 17.

Khan, 58, is being recognized for his immense contribution to Indian cinema, with the festival’s artistic director, Giona A. Nazzaro, praising him as a “brave and daring artist” who has always been willing to challenge himself.

The Locarno Film Festival, founded in 1946, is one of the world’s longest-running annual film festivals, focusing on auteur cinema. This year’s festival features 225 films, including 104 world premieres and 15 debut movies.

In addition to Khan, other notable recipients of honorary awards at the festival include Jane Campion, Alfonso Cuaron, Irene Jacob, and Stacey Sher.

The Golden Leopard, the festival’s top prize, will be awarded to one of the 17 films competing, with a prize fund of 75,000 Swiss francs ($87,400) shared between the director and producer.

The festival will also feature a retrospective dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures and will attract nearly 150,000 attendees.
