Standing Committee of National Assembly on Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety takes strict notice on the Non-Appointment of MD, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal
slamabad : In a move to address a critical administrative lapse, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety has taken stern notice of the prolonged absence of a Managing Director at Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM). This pressing matter was brought to the forefront during a comprehensive briefing by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety at the Committee’s second meeting, held today at the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Headquarters in Islamabad.
Chaired by the esteemed Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, MNA, the Committee unanimously urged the Federal Government to expedite the appointment of the PBM Chief, citing the dire impact of the delay on hundreds of deserving applicants awaiting financial assistance. “The prolonged vacancy has resulted in an unacceptable delay in aid disbursement, exacerbating the plight of those in need,” remarked Chairman Talpur.
The meeting commenced with an in-depth briefing on the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) by Chairperson BISP, Ms. Rubina Khalid, and senior BISP officials. The Committee was apprised of BISP’s vital role in maintaining a dynamic National Social Economic Registry (NSER) and its integration with federal and provincial entities.
Furthermore, the Committee recommended enhanced communication strategies for BISP, leveraging online and social media platforms to announce tranche disbursements and counter fraudulent messaging. The Committee commended Chairperson Khalid’s visionary initiatives, including revised beneficiary criteria and skills development programs for orphans.
The meeting concluded with a decision to invite State Bank representatives to future meetings to discuss direct payment challenges and emphasized the need to prioritize service provision in remote areas. Attendees included esteemed MNAs and officials from the Ministry and affiliated departments.
