Telecom Tribunal Bill Passed Unanimously: Committee Pushes for E-Office Implementation
In a significant move, the Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunication, chaired by Syed Amin ul Haq, unanimously passed “The Establishment of Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal Bill, 2024” without amendments. The Ministry of Law & Justice briefed the committee on the appointment procedure for tribunal chairpersons, emphasizing the role of the Search Committee and Federal Council.
The committee expressed concern over the delayed implementation of E-Office, launched four years ago, and urged the Ministry to initiate steps for its implementation, starting from the top level. The Federal Minister assured the committee of her commitment to promoting a paperless environment and improving efficiency.
The committee also recommended devising a policy for securing official correspondence and documents. Chairman NITB briefed the committee on the Aportille application, launched to cater to overseas employees’ needs, and was directed to ensure its launch within 15 days.
The committee emphasized the need for policy implementation in provinces, collaboration with Provincial Ministers, and expressed concern over the deprivation of mobile data facilities in four Baluchistan districts. Chairman PTA was summoned to brief the committee on this issue in the next meeting, emphasizing internet access as a fundamental right.
