In a historic convergence, a UNDP delegation, led by Resident Representative Samuel Rizk, met with Honourable Convener Bilal Azhar Kayani of the Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Parliament House, Islamabad. The convener unveiled the taskforce’s progress, highlighting the formation of four sub-groups aligned with the 17 SDGs’ categories: People, Prosperity, Planet, and Peace & Partnership.
As the two entities pledged mutual support, they envisioned conducting orientation sessions and workshops to empower parliamentarians with knowledge on SDG progress, indicators, and shortfalls. This synergy aims to foster informed legislation and advocacy across federal, provincial, and local government tiers.
The meeting also emphasized the successful execution of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Pakistan and the resulting action plans. Mr. Rizk commended Convener Kayani on restructuring the taskforce into specialized sub-groups, presenting a souvenir lapel pin as a token of faith in his leadership.
As the Parliamentary Taskforce and UNDP unite, a brighter future unfolds, where sustainable development and collective action pave the way for a prosperous Pakistan.
