US helping preserve Pakistan’s cultural heritage: Hawkins
Lahore:In a seminar organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), US Consul General Kristin K Hawkins emphasized the United States’ commitment to preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. She highlighted the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, which has supported over 1,200 projects worldwide, including 35 in Pakistan, with grants totaling over $8.4 million.
Hawkins showcased ongoing projects, such as the restoration of the Lahore Fort and the Wazir Khan Mosque, and initiatives to preserve cultural artifacts and promote cultural partnerships. She stressed the importance of preserving Pakistan’s cultural heritage to create jobs, strengthen the economy, and foster understanding between cultures.
FPCCI Vice President Qurrat ul Ain emphasized the potential of tourism in Pakistan, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to address challenges and achieve sustainable development. The seminar aimed to explore strategies for harnessing Pakistan’s tourism potential, particularly in religious tourism, health tourism, and agritourism, and emphasized the importance of engaging overseas Pakistanis in this endeavor.
