Water Resources Committee Meets to Address Nation’s Hydration Needs

Islamabad: In a bid to tackle the country’s water woes, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Water Resources convened under the chairmanship of Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi. The meeting aimed to delve into the Ministry’s performance, the current water situation, and the pressing issue of water scarcity in the Kirthar Canal.

Secretary Syed Ali Murtza presented a comprehensive briefing on the Ministry’s functions, highlighting its role in developing water resources, managing the Indus Waters Treaty, and collaborating with international organizations. The Committee was also informed about the Ministry’s attached departments, including WAPDA, IRSA, and the Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources.

Chairman WAPDA provided an update on the development of various dams, including Dasu and Mohmand Dams, while Chairman IRSA shed light on the reasons behind the water shortage in Kirthar Canal. The Committee decided to have a comprehensive briefing on the dams in its next meeting.

The meeting was attended by esteemed MNAs, the Federal Minister, and officials from the Ministry, all united in their quest to address the nation’s water challenges.
