Pakistan Hosts Global Parliamentarians for Human Rights and Rule of Law
Syed Naveed Qamar leads the charge as President of Parliamentarians for Global Action
Islamabad, August 8, 2024: A meeting of parliamentarians from across the parties in both the Houses of the Parliament of Pakistan was convened today in the Parliament House. The meeting was chaired by a seasoned parliamentarian, Syed Naveed Qamar is also the elected President of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA). PGA is a non-governmental, multi-party, international network of legislators acting in their individual capacities aiming to contribute towards the creation of a Rules-Based International order for a more equitable, safe, sustainable and democratic world.
The PGA President highlighted the significance of the organization and its remarkable achievements since its establishment in 1978. He encouraged the parliamentarians to join the PGA and play their role towards advancing human rights and rule of law. Highlighting the plight of the innocent Palestinian people, he said that such forums provided a pivotal platform to raise collective voices for the victims of aggression and barbarism. He also informed the participants that the National Assembly of Pakistan was hosting the 45th Annual Forum of the PGA alongside the 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on the International Criminal Court and the Rule of Law (CAP-ICC) from October 28-29, 2024 in Islamabad.
The parliamentarians congratulated Syed Naveed Qamar on his election to the prestigious office of the PGA President and said that it was not only an achievement on his part but also a matter of pride for the whole parliament and the entire nation. The parliamentarians also evinced great interest in the PGA’s activities and assured their complete support towards making the October conference of the PGA in Pakistan a success.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Law & Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and parliamentarians from both the Houses of the Parliament of Pakistan with virtual presence of the First Lady, Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and other renowned parliamentarians.
