Islamabad:In a concerted effort to bridge the gap between the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and the Karachi Dock Labour Board (KDLB), the National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs convened under the chairmanship of Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel. The committee invited KDLB representatives to air their grievances, taking a serious view of the ongoing sit-in protest in front of KPT headquarters.

After listening to the protesters’ demands, the committee directed the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to draft a new SRO, increasing the representation of DOK workers in the KDLB Board to maintain balance. The committee also recommended a meeting between KDLB representatives, the Minister for Maritime Affairs, and stakeholders to resolve genuine demands and end the protest.

Furthermore, the committee noted the expired term of KDLB’s Executive Officer and strongly recommended advertising the post in leading newspapers to ensure transparency.

The meeting, attended by esteemed MNAs, marked a significant step towards resolving the KPT-KDLB dispute, paving the way for harmony and cooperation in the maritime sector.
